The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
